i would say look in the fuse box under the bonnet, some vauxhall models have electrical power steering pumps. there will be some 'maxi' fuses, itll be controlled by one of them. if that doesnt help, try swapping some relays around, see if one's faulty. hope this helpsVaux Astra 02 Electrical Problems?
Not similar to yours but these newer models are well known for electrical problems. The the newest models I've not heard much complaints from, but models like MK4 and MK 3, both of which I've had and both had electrical problems, and both are always on forums with these kinds. I never had any issue with my Merit estate bought brand new in 89 and it got written off about 5 years ago otherwise it was a good car and still running- damn those careless drivers!
Go to astra forums www.vxon.co.uk is excellent. there are other forums i've been to but this one I remember as it was good and I've had good experience on there. I think the other is http://astraownersnetwork.co.uk/forums/ is a new one never tried it before. but its a matter of trial and error and reading through and posting queries as needed on their forums and seeing what responses you get.
Put vauxhall forums or astra forums into a search engine and all the related forum sites will come up and you'll get more detailed and understandable answers from ppl who know their astras.

I don't see what the power steering and the alternator have in common? Its possible your heater fan problem is caused by a blown fuse or failed relay? I recommend you take it to a decent garage and get them to find out exactly what the real problems are.
