how do i lossen the tenshner up?? please explain??On a 1993 grand am,need to change the alternator. do i have to loosen the teshin up to loosen the belt?
The tensioner is a spring loaded pulley you have to use a tensioning tool or long breaker bar to take tension off belt, remove from alternator pulley to change alternator. You will be able to pull tensioner pulley off belt and feel more resistance as you release tension from belt. Be careful when releasing tension so you don't jam your fingers between tool and engine brackets. On a 1993 grand am,need to change the alternator. do i have to loosen the teshin up to loosen the belt?
there should be a bolt or a spot for a 1\2%26quot; breaker bar on the end, just pull until the tension is off the belt.On a 1993 grand am,need to change the alternator. do i have to loosen the teshin up to loosen the belt?
oh yeah, absolutly. That is the only way to take that belt off unless you cut it off, and then you will have to loosen it t put it back on any way. Im not sure if that car has an auto tensioner or not. If not Then you will have to loosen the bolts and pry it so you can loosen the belt. And before you do anything disconnect the battery!!!! Good luck to you.
