how to change alternator and which bolt loosens the belt90 honda prelude?
I own a 91 lude and just changed my drive belts this week. It's different than a 90-93 accord, the accord has 2 adusters and the lude only has 1.
First disconnect the battery negative cable and remove the 2 connections at the alternator just to be safe.
remove the 2 12mm bolts on the p/s pump. One is visible and the other is behind the pulley, you will need patience and a wrench for this one.
After the bolts are out drop down the pump and remove the belt, you will have to twist it a little to get it around the crankshaft pulley. With a rag remove the hose from pump, fluid will leak out a little so be careful not to get it into the alternator. Set the pump on the valve cover.
You will now see a 14mm bolt, this is the pivot bolt. Loosen it, you dont have to remove it completely, but just enough to so that the alternator will be able to swing down later.
Now get a 12%26quot; extension and under the alternator on the left side will be an adjuster bolt. Loosen this bolt, but do not remove it, it will be a pain to put back in if it is taken out.
After this bolt is loose, look at the front of the alternator, near the bottom is a stud with a 12mm nut on it, loosen the nut and the alternator will be able to drop. Loosen it so that you are able to drop the alternator enough to remove the belt.
Remove and replace the belt and do the opposite of removal. Make sure that the new belt is on tight. It should have little deflection. Since it is new it will stretch and tension should be checked 15 minutes after driving. Make adjustments if necessary.90 honda prelude?
i have a 93 and you have to remove the power steering pump and the bolt to do that is one of the alternator bolts. there are two tension bolts on the front...make sure they are both loose. then there is a swing arm bolt that you have to take outthe bolt, but make sure you keep track of the bolt and nothing happens to it cause it will cost you around 16 buck to replace. the alternator just comes right out. to get to a couple of the bolts you might have to take the heat shield off the exhaust manifold. the alternator just slide in the braket and bolts up the exact same way it came out......good luck!
