Thanks for your replies to my question. It seems the alternator is at fault, so it needs to be changed. i guesight as well change the regulator while i'm at it. Does anyone have the relevant page of the workshop manual that they could scan and send to me please??.
Also please advise of any extra parts needed, i.e gaskets.

Your best bet is to get a service manual for your bike.
I got one for my bike on eBay, a Clymer service manual. It was the best $25 I spent on my ride.
It will have detailed step by step instructions on how to troubleshoot and service your electrical problems.
