I'm not even sure it's the alternator that's bad. Yesterday, I went out to start the car and it wouldn't turn over, just made a slight clicking noise. Got a jump, the car started, but, when I turned it off after about 30 minutes of running, it wouldn't start back up.
Don't want to have to spend a mint to fix it? My dad said he could fix it if the alternator is easy to get to. Any advice at all would be appreciated. How difficult is it to change the alternator on a 2002 dodge stratus?
It would be best to have the Battery load-tested, check voltage while running, and check over the wiring connections to be sure. It's possible that the Battery is just not holding a charge. If the system voltage is above 13 with the engine running, you probably need a Battery.
If it is the Alternator that's bad, how hard does vary between engines. Here's instructions for your model, and the various engines. There's also a section on testing, but you'd need some electrical testing equipment.

Whatever you do, don't disconnect the Battery while the car is running. I'm surprised some Bozo hasn't suggested it already. How difficult is it to change the alternator on a 2002 dodge stratus?
I wouldn't just throw parts at it. Get it running and take it to a shop, or the professionals at auto zone if you'd like, and have a charging system test done. How difficult is it to change the alternator on a 2002 dodge stratus?
